Catahoula Parish Grain Bin Safety Workshop

  • C-C PLANTERS GIN 1600 Martin Luther King Drive Jonesville, LA, 71343 United States (map)

Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is partnering with Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation to host grain bin safety and rescue training for emergency responders and farmers. We appreciate your interest in this important safety issue. We have had successful grain bin rescues in our state over the past few years and can attribute that to the availability of this program for our first responders and farmers!

We will begin Tuesday, February 27th, in Acadia Parish, then move to St. Landry Parish on Wednesday, February 28th, and conclude on Thursday, February 29th in Catahoula Parish.  We ask that each site be prepared to serve a meal to all those in attendance. The programs will begin with supper at 5:30 p.m., with the classroom portion (approximately 1 hour long) to begin at 6:00 p.m. The entire program will take approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours to complete.

Our primary audience for this program is your local volunteer and full-time firefighters in your community.  When that call is made for a rescue, these are the first responders on the scene and we want to make sure they are trained properly to execute a successful rescue. The goal is to have several attend from each surrounding town or parish to make sure rescuers are in more than one small community.

Farmers and other ag workers are welcome and encouraged to attend. The educational component of this program is just as important as the rescue training. Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Safety Department will be conducting the training. Each location will need to provide approximately 150-200 bushels of corn and the ability to load and unload it in the simulated grain bin. Our Mississippi counterparts may be bringing some as well.

We are very excited to bring this valuable educational safety program to your parish and look forward to seeing you soon.

Space is limited and registration is recommended for meal planning. Turn-out gear required of all firefighters. To register, please contact one of the locations listed at www.lafarmbureau.org/calendar .
